What is Dolby Atmos?

Dolby Atmos is an expansive and literal take on what traditional stereo seeks to achieve via manipulation of panning and EQ. Rather than 2 monitors in front of the listener, a professional Dolby Atmos setup strategically places a number of monitors around, and above the listener. Dolby Atmos allows the audio engineer to manipulate sounds in a three dimensional space in a precise manner - this depth of control allows for extremely realistic audio presentations.

Our Setup

At SAD Entertainment in Calgary, Alberta - we are pleased to offer Dolby Atmos 7.1.4. Our setup offers seven monitors around the listener at ear level, one subwoofer on the floor for precise and realistic bass, and 4 monitors mounted to the ceiling above the listener. Our Dolby Atmos setup is comprised exclusively of Neumann KH80 professional monitors. Our team has hand welded custom roof mounts to ensure rigorous adherence to Dolby’s public height requirement specifications. Holding ourselves to a standard of world class accuracy, following the acoustical treatment of our environment, our entire Dolby Atmos 7.1.4. system was calibrated by hand utilizing Sonarworks hardware and software.

At SAD Entertainment in Calgary, Alberta, we’ve designed our second commercial location entirely self funded from the ground up to ensure industry grade management of projects which call for Dolby Atmos engineering, largely as a response to Calgary’s budding entertainment scene.
